The Goodnight Project

If I’m not creating, I feel a part of me start to wither. Being creative is what keeps me going, and ambient music really helped me get back to myself when I needed it most.
— The Goodnight Project

The Goodnight Project is the ambient music project of American producer and composer Nathaniel James Goldblatt. His sound moves between gentle piano lines and expansive textures, creating calm and reflective spaces where listeners can slow down, breathe, and find peace.

The project began in 2019, during a busy and challenging season of Nathaniel’s life. As a new father working multiple jobs, he had little time for the many musical projects he had been involved in before. One night, after his family had gone to bed, he put on his headphones and sat at the keyboard, just to see if playing a few notes might ease his restless need to create. What came out was a melody he had first written years earlier on his grandfather’s upright piano. That piece became Enter Moonlight - and with it, The Goodnight Project was born.

To Nathaniel’s surprise, the track quickly found listeners. It landed on playlists and was shared widely, eventually bringing his music to audiences far beyond what he had imagined. From there, he continued to release ambient pieces, slowly shaping The Goodnight Project into a home for the quiet, reflective side of his creativity.

Nathaniel’s relationship with music goes back to childhood. He remembers writing simple “songs” on his grandfather’s piano in elementary school and recording them with a Fischer Price tape recorder, always driven by the urge not just to listen, but to create. As he grew older, he taught himself guitar and bass, sang in rock and pop punk bands, and explored different genres that still influence his musical instincts today.

For Nathaniel, music is more than expression, it is a necessity. It keeps him grounded, helps him connect with others, and is also his way of connecting with God. As a Christian, he sees creativity as a reflection of the divine, a way of participating in something larger than himself. Through The Goodnight Project, he hopes to give listeners a sense of calm, focus, and escape, like visiting a place that exists only in memory or imagination.

Outside of ambient music, Nathaniel also fronts a rock project called Sleepyheart, and admits to having a soft spot for emo and pop punk.
