Jonn

Knowing that somewhere out there, someone is listening and that my music might be touching their heart. There’s nothing more rewarding than that.
— Jonn

Jonn is the ambient project of Jonathan L’Espérance, a classically trained pianist and composer from the island of Mauritius. His music is best described in three words: organic, emotional, timeless.

Jonathan’s musical journey began at the age of eleven, when his father introduced him to classical music. That moment marked the beginning of a lifelong relationship with music. He began studying piano and theory through the Royal School of Music, and soon after started playing in church — a space that shaped not only his skills, but also his sense of purpose as a musician.

For many years, Jonathan focused solely on interpreting other composers' work from Beethoven to Chopin. While those years were rich and formative, they offered little space for personal exploration. It wasn’t until 2021 that he started composing ambient music of his own. That shift marked the true beginning of Jonn Ambient music offered him something he had never experienced before, a sense of freedom. Freedom from structure. Freedom to feel. Freedom to simply be in the moment.

Music has always been his escape route. In joy or in difficulty, it’s where he turns. It's his medicine, and the one language that helps him express thoughts and emotions that words so often fail to carry.

After a six-year break from music to study Architecture and Design, he found himself returning, or perhaps it was music that returned to him. “Never underestimate the power of music,” he says. “It found its way back into my life, and I’m so glad it did.”

For Jonathan, the most rewarding part of being an independent artist is knowing that somewhere, someone is listening, and that the music might be touching their heart. That’s what matters most.

He hopes his music helps listeners feel relaxed, calm, and reconnected, with themselves and with the present moment.
