Tom Squires is a London-based composer and sound designer who makes music as rhubiqs. He creates ambient pieces built from expressive sounds and textures, and also performs them live. In both settings, he hopes to give people a little space to pause and reflect.

Tom came to ambient music through his work in a post-rock band, where he focused on production, electronics, samples, and synths. He found himself drawn to sounds that could stretch and slowly change over time. Around 2018, he began making more music on his own, following his interest in sound design and composition until rhubiqs took shape.

As a teenager in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Tom listened to skater punk, emo, and pop punk. Those early influences still matter to him, especially in the way he looks for feeling in music. As an independent artist, he values being able to follow an idea wherever it leads and make each creative decision himself.

Through rhubiqs, Tom creates music that listeners can settle into when they need a break from everyday noise. Outside of music, he loves running. He once finished 199th out of 56,000 participants in the London Marathon, an achievement he is quietly proud of.
