Philippe Deschamps is a composer and sound artist from Paris. His ambient music brings together piano, voice, guitar, and carefully shaped sounds. He creates pieces that give listeners room to pause, imagine, and follow where the music takes them.

Philippe’s connection to music began when he was five, after hearing Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier in a family friend’s car. He studied classical piano as a child and later trained as a countertenor. In his teens, he played bass and guitar in rock and post-rock bands. After studying sound at film school, he worked as a sound editor and began composing for film. Some of those scores already held the beginnings of the ambient sound he would come to explore.

Philippe started releasing ambient music in 2022. He loves the freedom it gives him to work with almost anything, from piano and electric guitar to a voice, the wind, or a moment of silence. Ideas come from astrophysics, poetry, colors, and everyday sights such as clouds moving or light on water. Making music is his way of giving form to what he hears and feels.

Outside the studio, Philippe enjoys jazz and often goes to acoustic concerts in Paris. He admires musicians such as John Coltrane and Bill Evans and returns often to the poetry of Philippe Jaccottet. Although his background is in classical music, he feels most at home creating in the studio. He hopes his music can take listeners somewhere they have never been, or bring back the feeling of a place they once loved.
